Endeavour Software Project Management is open-source project management software available under GNU General Public License (GPL) i.e. free of cost. It is mainly used for projects that are on large-scale i.e. enterprise-wide software projects and that too in incremental and iterative development environment.
The major features of the software system are projects, use cases, iterations, project plans, defect tracking, change requests, task, document management, reports, project glossary, development management and Endeavour’s Project Plan Gantt Chart.
It was developed in September 2008. The original intention to develop the software system was to be a good replacement of expensive and complex systems.
It is very easy to use, realistic and intuitive as it eliminates various features which are actually not required. After successfully completing 1 year, the software system was registered on SourceForge’s database but recently it was added to the blog and right now the software is downloaded by 210 times per week on an average.
The software system needs Java Enterprise – complaint application server so that it can be deployed and a database system which can run on any operating system. The software system can run on web irrespective of the browser i.e. it runs on any browser as it has cross-browser capability.
Usage
The software system is used for managing large scale i.e. enterprise-wide projects which works in the feedback loop system i.e. the mistake or errors are implemented and again checked and a feedback is issued accordingly.
The system provides easy administration for software process artifacts, collaboration and report for the stakeholders of the project and the organization. It provides a way to track the status of agile software development team.
It is great tool that consist all the major features like it provides collaboration for the stakeholders of the project, monitoring of the project is very easy. The installation of the software system is very easy, fast and intuitive.
Recent modifications in the system
The integration errors with respect to Project Wiki were fixed. A security group module was successfully implemented which allowed the access to the features by assigning respective privileges. Search criteria features was successfully implemented i.e. search criteria was possible in Use Case, Change Requests, Task listing views etc.
More than 150 different issues were resolved and fixed providing the users with a more stable and accurate system. It leverages the power of robust rich client web based application by easy installation and the best solution of having cross-browser compatibility. The development process of agile software is automated in this software system.
